NCEM Young Composers Award 2013 - Winners

Joseph Howard with Florilegium at the Bath International Music Festival

Joseph Howard and Lilly Vadaneaux at the Bath International Music Festival
The NCEM Young Composers Award is presented in association with BBC Radio 3, and in 2013 we worked with the internationally acclaimed early music ensemble Florilegium.  The winners were Lilly Vadaneaux (18 and under category) - who, at the age of 11, was the youngest ever winner as well as the youngest ever entrant of the Award - and Joseph Howard (19 - 25 category), a student from Pickering in North Yorkshire. Florilegium premiered the winning pieces at the Bath International Music Festival in June and the concert  was broadcast on BBC Radio 3's Early Music Show later that month.
"Winning the NCEM Young Composers Award gave me the opportunity to work with a fantastic professional group - Florilegium - and to hear my piece come to life. It was a wonderful experience, and through the publicity I received my first paid commission to write a piece for harpsichord. Composing for early instruments is very rewarding and I highly recommend it."  Joseph Howard
