NCEM Young Composers Award 2012 - Winners

Alex Woolf

Benjamin Rowarth, Peter Phillips, Director of the Tallis Scholars, and Alex Woolf
The NCEM Young Composers Award is presented in association with BBC Radio 3. In 2012 we worked with the internationally renowned vocal ensemble, The Tallis Scholars, and the winners were Benjamin Rowarth (19 to 25 category) and Alex Woolf (18 and under category). The two winning pieces were premiered by The Tallis Scholars at Durham Cathedral in June 2012 and broadcast on BBC Radio 3's Early Music Show later that month.

"The NCEM Young Composers Award is a fantastic competition and it was amazing to win it in 2012. The opportunity for an ensemble as internationally renowned as The Tallis Scholars to perform your music at such a young age is pretty much unique, and something I'll never forget. This competition really helped me to develop as a composer and musician, and I'm thrilled to now be studying music at Cambridge, where I hope to build upon my experiences at the NCEM!" Alex Woolf
