Taiko Comes to North Lincs

After some successful initial taster sessions in after school clubs in North Lincolnshire, a regular session on a Saturday morning has been set up to give children in the area an opportunity to learn this spectacular and very disciplined style of Japanese drumming.

Led by expert Taiko musician Lisa Oliver the group, which runs alongside the Music Centre sessions at John Leggott College, has proved really popular.

There are two sessions on offer, one for 8-11 year olds and one for 12 and over.  Twenty young people regularly attend the sessions and they have also given several performances including one at the Baths Hall alongside the famous Mugyenko taiko drumming troupe.

With some separate funding we are now looking at offering some family taiko taster sessions as many adults have also expressed an interest in having a go at this drumming style.

We made a short video about the group, which can be viewed here
