Dance workshops for primary schools with The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments, Beverley, Friday 23 May 2014

Swinemoor Primary School and St. John RC Primary School, Beverley took part in 'With Belles On; Nine Daies of Wonderful Dancing in one hour' - workshops led by The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments as part of the 2014 Beverley and East Riding Early Music Festival.

Four hundred years ago, dance would have been an important part of every day life, whether you worked in the fields or lived in the lap of luxury.  Sliding, stamping, leaping, jumping and hopping are just some of the steps that were used. The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments, with dancing master, Steven Player, taught the children a wild Morisco, Elizabethan style, to the accompaniment of some extraordinary musical instruments.
