Family Concert: 2.30pm

As part of York Residents First Weekend, the York RI Golden Rail Band and the York RI Development Band (in conjunction with Brassed On York Ltd) returned to the National Centre for Early Music to share their love of brass music and instruments.

The first half of the day was run as an informal drop-in, available to all ages and targeted at those who had never played a brass instrument before, those who wanted to revisit an instrument they had not played in a long time, or those who already played a brass instrument but had not had the experience of playing with a brass band before. A wide array of instruments was available with members of the bands on hand to introduce the techniques needed for comfortable and enjoyable playing.

At 2.30pm both RI bands joined together to present a short Family Concert, suitable for all ages. This sharing was an informal presentation of brass band classics from the the York RI Golden Rail Band and the York RI Development Band. The performance also offered opportunities for eager participants from the morning workshops to join in and play as part of a full ensemble.
