Biography

Formed in 2001 and formed of five of the UK's leading recorder players, the ensemble Fontanella has performed for festivals, music clubs and radio and television networks across Britain and Europe, including appearances in Italy, Iceland and Finland. Concert programmes typically present music from the medieval period and beyond; the group has a special affinity with music of the Renaissance, but also performs contemporary music as well as the ensemble's own popular transcriptions of music in every genre from baroque to jazz.

In 2012 the ensemble appeared in an episode of the BBC's flagship music show for children, ZingZillas, which has since been repeated many times both in the UK and across the world. In 2013 the ensemble also had the privilege for performing live for Dame Judi Dench in concert. Their latest CD The Woods So Wild (2016) on the BCR label features music inspired by nature from the medieval and renaissance periods, with a companion CD release of baroque to contemporary music, The Nightingale's Response coming soon.
