Biography

"There is probably no more inspirational musician working today than Podger" (Gramophone). Over the last two decades Rachel Podger has established herself as a leading interpreter of the Baroque and Classical music periods and has recently been described as "the queen of the baroque violin" (Sunday Times). 

Rachel records exclusively for Channel Classics and has won numerous awards including multiple Diapasons d'Or, a Baroque Instrumental Gramophone Award for La Stravaganza (2003), a BBC Music Magazine award in the instrumental category for Guardian Angel (2014) and in the concerto category for L'Estro Armonico (2016). Rachel's next disc, Bach Art of Fugue, will be released in 2016.

Rachel is founder and Artistic Director of the Brecon Baroque Festival (a four day event in the Brecon Beacons). She is resident artist at Kings Place for their 2016 season titled Baroque Unwrapped. She is also an honorary member of both the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In October 2015 Rachel was the first woman to be awarded the prestigious Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Foundation Bach Prize.
