Style of ensemble Instrumental

Biography

JACOB HERINGMAN and SUSANNA PELL have been colleagues for 27 years and have both enjoyed distinguished careers at the forefront of early music; Jacob as a soloist and with many prominent ensembles; Susanna as a freelance performer and member of the pioneering groups, Fretwork and The Dufay Collective. Between them they've made around 150 recordings for major labels and played in many prestigious concert series and festivals throughout the world.

They can be heard on film soundtracks including Harry Potter III, Kingdom of Heaven, The Da Vinci Code, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Ridley Scott's Robin Hood and The Hobbit. Jacob appears on Joni Mitchell's Travelogue (2002) and Susanna on Kate Bush's celebrated 2005 album Aerial.

In 1999, for their marriage, composer Andrew Keeling wrote a piece titled "Pellingmans' Saraband". They adopted this name for their duo collaboration, combining the unique sonorities of their two instruments in an exploration of late medieval to early baroque music. Division-Musick (2012) was Pellingmans' Saraband's first recording and signified the launch of a new phase in their performing careers. Twenty waies upon the bels (2016) is their second duo release, in which they are joined by Faye Newton and other guest singers.
