Prince Regent's Band, The

Style of ensemble Instrumental, Consort

Biography

The Prince Regent's Band was formed to explore the wealth of historic chamber music for brass and wind instruments. The group takes its name from the private band of the Prince Regent, later George IV that flourished in the late eighteenth/early nineteenth century. The original Prince Regent's Band was an elite ensemble of musicians from throughout Europe.

Members of today's ensemble are specialists in the period performance field and perform with ensembles such as Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, English Baroque Soloists, Florilegium, Gabrielli Consort and Players, Hanover Band, Ex Cathedra, Academy of Ancient Music, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Drottingholm Baroque,Tafelmusic, Dunedin Consort, The Sixteen, The Kings Consort, QuintEssential, The City Musick, Europa Galante, Il Giardino Armonico and many more.

Programmes include "The Celebrated Distin Family" (a re-imagining of the music of one of the most famed chamber music ensembles of the Victorian age), "Brazen Harmony" (the music of J-F Bellon and his contemporaries), "Russian Revolutionaries" (Glazunov, Ewald, Böhme etc).

2016 sees the release of PRB's debut disc "The Celebrated Distin Family" whilst 2017, the centenary of the 1917 Russian Revolutions, will see the release of "Russian Revolutionaries" both on Resonus Classics.
