Biography

Period: Late 1500s to early 1800s.

Penelope Cave is an international prize-winning harpsichordist who has given solo recitals in the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, and throughout Britain. She has recorded for Hyperion Records with Camerata of London, given solo broadcasts for Belgian Radio, Classic FM and BBC Radio 3. Her CD, From Lisbon to Madrid, received 5 stars from BBC Music magazine, among other accolades. Her new recording for Prima Facie is entitled Panorama: 1919-2013, A century of British Keyboard Music performed on the harpsichord. One specialisation is in early piano music for four hands, frequently using historic harpsichords and pianos, and she has been filmed by BBC Persia, and appeared in four short films about music at Tatton Park, directed by her PhD supervisor, Professor Jeanice Brooks, www.hiddenhistories.co.uk. 

Penelope Cave was awarded a doctorate in July 2014 and, in 2015, was artist-in-residence at Dyrham Park for the National Trust. She given illustrated papers at conferences including the universities of London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Hull, and Leeds, and most recently Italy, the Ringve Museum in Trondheim, Norway and the Music Faculty in Oxford. She regularly tutors courses, masterclasses and workshops for adults and children, which have included baroque music on the piano for Benslow Music Trust, EPTA at the Purcell School, and for Godalming Music Festival. She writes and reviews for a number of publications including, Sounding Board, the Consort and Harpsichord & Fortepiano, and is currently contributing to a couple of academic books. She was married to the Guildford instrument-maker, the late Michael Heale.
