Double Entendre - Katarzyna Kowalik & Pawel Siwcza
Period(s) Baroque
Style of ensemble Instrumental

Biography

A double entendre is a figure of speech or a particular way of wording that is devised to be understood in either of two ways, having a double meaning (typically one of the interpretations is rather obvious whereas the other is more subtle). Two exciting harpsichordists: Katarzyna Kowalik and Pawel Siwczak are both Polish, both studied with the same teachers (with Wladyslaw Klosiewicz in Warsaw and with Carole Cerasi in London), and both are based in London, no wonder they decided to form a harpsichord duo as a result of their common passion. Under the name Double Entendre they present a programme of music for two harpsichords or four hands featuring works by Vivaldi, Handel, Le Roux, Purcell, Buxtehude, Mozart & Boccherini.

It is a perfect opportunity to explore the subtleties of the harpsichord playing. It is also neither obvious nor impossible to capture countless meanings filtered and delivered by two different minds of these inquisitive and imaginative performers, in their intertwining interpretations.
