Biography
Particularly passionate about Bach and Byrd, Clare Wilkinson makes music with groups of different shapes and sizes - lute, consort of viols, vocal consort, baroque orchestra - and loves them all. Many new songs have also been written for Clare, including a number by her father Stephen, two of which she has recorded with Fretwork. Clare has recorded very widely, and a number of her disks have won Gramophone awards and nominations. She has recorded Bach with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Andrew Parrott and others, and several well-received disks with the Rose Consort of Viols. She is a founder member of Courtiers of Grace, creating lovingly-constructed programmes of songs and readings which tell the story of a historical character. Clare is a member of Alamire, Ensemble Plus Ultra and I Fagiolini (with whom she enjoys a broad spectrum of musical experiences, from staged Monteverdi madrigals to banana gags). She lives in the Flanders woods with her conductor husband.
