Biography

Alison Crum is one of the best known British exponents of the viol. As teacher, performer and moving-spirit behind several well-known groups, she travels all over the world giving recitals and lectures, and teaching at summer schools and workshops.

As a soloist, Alison Crum is available to give recitals, usually with a variety of continuo instruments. She is most often accompanied by Roy Marks who plays lutes, guitar, theorbo and viol. Their large collection of instruments and versatility as a players allow programmes to be tailored to the wishes of individual promoters. They can be joined by Andrew Kerr or other viol players, to include the wide repertory of music for three or more viols.

Alison has made around 100 recordings, including many with the Rose Consort of Viols, and her most recent duo CD 'A Spagna in the Works' (with Roy Marks) has attracted many enthusiastic reviews:
'The variety of colours that Alison produces from all the viols is astonishing.' VDGSA News. '...creating a mood leaving us somewhere between a hypnotic trance and suspended mid-air...' Thamesis.
