Biography

Born in Transylvania, Kati Debretzeni studied the violin with Ora Shiran in Israel, and the Baroque violin with Catherine Mackintosh at the Royal College of Music in London. Since the year 2000 she leads the English Baroque Soloists under John Eliot Gardiner, and her playing with the group can be heard in numerous Bach cantatas, the Brandenburg Concertos and the recently released B minor Mass. Since 2008 she is one of the leaders of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, which she has directed and lead in the UK, Europe and the US under Simon Rattle, William Christie, Ivan Fischer, Roger Norrington, Robin Ticciati, Marin Alsop and others.

She has recorded numerous chamber music CDs with Florilegium (Chanel Classics), Ricordo (Linn Records), and Trio Goya (Chandos). Her most recent recording is that of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, which appears on the Age of Enlightenment's own label.

Kati has directed various ensembles in Israel, Canada, Poland, Norway, Iceland and the UK, and teaches the Baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague.
