Biography

The Hanover Band is one of the most distinguished British period instrument orchestras. It is well known for its passionate, endlessly imaginative and historically aware performances. It has an international reputation for the excellence of its recordings of 18th and 19th century music. Formed by its Founder/Artistic Director & Cellist, Caroline Brown in March 1980, it performs and records regularly in the UK and has toured throughout the world. The orchestra will make its debut in China in 2017 with Benjamin Bayl director/hpd.

The Band is committed to education work and has since 1993 undertaken work throughout the South East of England. Recently, the Band commissioned Alexander L'Estrange to compose and perform a new choral work entitled Zadok rules Hallelujah and has undertaken extensive education work with schools in East & West Sussex & Hampshire.

The orchestra has an impressive discography of 176 commercial CDs, with Nimbus & Hyperion Records, BMG, EMI, ASV, Cpo, Cala and Opera Rara. It's list of directors over previous years, reads like a Who's Who of period instrument interpretation:- Monica Huggett, Sir Charles Mackerrras, Roy Goodman, Nicholas McGegan, Nicholas Kraemer, Anthony Halstead, Benjamin Bayl, Mahan Esfahani, Jorge Jimenez and Andrew Arthur.
