Biography

Yorkshire Bach Choir was formed in 1979 by Peter Seymour and performs a mixture of a cappella and accompanied choral music (with Yorkshire Baroque Soloists) from the mid-16th- to early 19th-century. The choir promotes a subscription series in York but in recent seasons has also appeared at Leipzig Bach Festival, Festival Mitte Europa, York Early Music Festival, Beverley Early Music Festival, Swaledale, Warwick, Ryedale and Northern Aldeborough Festivals. The choir has recorded for ITV and Channel 4 (a programme about Bach's work in Leipzig) as well as on many occasions for WDR-Köln and BBC Radio 3 in programmes from Monteverdi to Haydn. Next season's programme includes music by Byrd, Sweelinck, Lassus, Palestrina and Victoria ('Renaissance Unchained'); JS Bach Magnificat, Cantata 140 (Wachet auf) and CPE Bach Magnificat with Yorkshire Baroque Soloists); music by Schütz for the Dresden Court; Bach B minor Mass (with Bethany Seymour, Anna Huntley, Jason Darnell, Frederick Long and Yorkshire Baroque Soloists); 20th choral classics by Duruflé, Kodaly and Walton; Monteverdi Vespers 1641 with Carissimi Historia di Jephte.
