Il Quadro Animato were in residency with us from 21 to 30 May. Founded in Milan, the ensemble is currently based in Frankfurt, Germany. They specialise in the Baroque, Galant and Classical styles, focusing on the concertanti, sonatas for four or five instruments (flute, violin, viola and cello and continuo or obbligato keyboard) in which each of the instrumentalists is featured as a soloist. Though fascinated with historically informed performance practice, the ensemble aims to add a fresh and creative twist to the music they perform.

A highlight of their residency was their performance as part of the Beverley and East Riding Festival - 'A Sentimental Journey' at Toll Gavel United Church, Beverley.

They also received artistic coaching from Ashley Solomon, Chair and Head of Historical Performance at the Royal College of Music, flautist and Director of Florilegium.; and from Richard Boothby, professor of the viola da gamba at the Royal College of Music, and founder member of Fretwork and the Purcell Quartet. Training in ensemble management was provided by singer, playwright, Artistic Director and artist mentor, Clare Norburn.

As part of the eeemerging scheme, Il Quadro Animato have already enjoyed residencies in Göttingen, Germany and Ambronay, France. .
