The Art of Sound - 24th May 2019

Recorder Quartet Block4

The Art of Sound

Block4 Recorder Quartet and Keldmarsh Primary School
As part of the Beverley Early Music Festival

Performing music from their Stargazing Programme, which touches upon both Early and Contemporary works, Block 4 will work with children from Keldmarsh Primary School on developing graphic scores through drawing, painting and crafting interpretations as the ensemble plays.

In this interactive workshop the children will experience a new relationship with sound. Led by visiting artist Lynda Beckett, participants will react to sound material played by BLOCK4 recorder quartet. They will then have the opportunity to 'hear' their drawings performed live. Working with sound and visual material in this way gives children the chance to understand abstract concepts such as texture, melody and rhythm and helps them to understand music from a new perspective, without the need for any formal musical training.

The ensemble and the children will work collaboratively to create a short performance at the end of the day, which will be informed by the children's brand new original scores.

Block4 will also be performing their Stargazing programme on Saturday 25th May at St Mary's Church as part of the festival. Book tickets here

This fantastic workshop is made possible thanks to the generous support of The Arts Society Beverley and the Mayfield Valley Arts Trust.
