Into the Underworld - 5th July 2019

Education Consultant Cathryn Dew

Into the Underworld
Friday 5th July 2019
1.30pm - c.2.30pm
NCEM

This exciting project, taking place across the summer term 2019, will involve 30 KS2 students from Heworth School, culminating in a performance produced in response to Monteverdi's L'Orfeo.

The children will be working closely with NCEM's Education Consultant Cathryn Dew, who will be directing the project alongside other Early Music specialists and Puppeteer Anna Ingleby from Indigo Moon Theatre . The project will be carried out over a series of workshops, firstly getting to grips with their unique score and script and then learning all about shadow puppets and creating their own to use in the performance. Then, children will be immersed in production week, refining their performance but also learning all about what it takes to put on a show by rehearsing at the NCEM for the final part of the week.

As well as working with an inspiring leadership team of professionals, the young people will be part of the prestigious York Early Music Festival, kicking off a fantastic week of concerts, workshops and talks! See our full programme here.

This exciting project is made possible thanks to the generous support of The Patricia and Donald Shepherd Charitable Trust and The Mayfield Valley Arts Trust.
