Engaging Deaf Children with Music

A one day conference will examine examines how under-5s with hearing loss access, enjoy and benefit from musical engagement.

Speakers will include Dr Paul Whittaker OBE, Artistic Director of Music and the Deaf (MATD), talking about the importance of music for deaf children and Professor David Howard, Head of the Department of Electronics, University of York, speaking about music, access and technology. Danny Lane from MATD will lead an audience session and deaf trumpeter Sean Chandler, member of Goldie's Band, will perform and talk about the importance of music in his life

Marketplace stalls feature services and resources suitable for deaf children and their families.

The conference follows from a research project exploring musical opportunities for young deaf children in York, East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull, North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire.
