Ballaké Sissoko
At Peace - Classical soundscapes of African beauty

NCEM, York
Saturday 23 November 7:30pm

Adults £12.00 | Concessions £10.00 | Students £5.00  SOLD OUT

Ballaké Sissoko is one of Mali''s greatest exponents of the kora, the 21-stringed harp of the Manding people. Whilst his music is steeped in ancient West African traditions, he is also a staunch innovator and musical adventurer. Ballaké has performed with Toumani Diabate, Taj Mahal, Ludovico Einaudi, and more recently, in an award-winning collaboration with French cellist Vincent Segal. Performing from his latest CD 'At Peace', which has received fantastic reviews from critics worldwide - the timely success of which is frequently attributed to the contrast between the peacefulness of the music and the current turmoil in his homeland of Mali, he is joined by his musical companions on guitars and balafon. Also joining Ballaké as a special guest is Malian diva Babani Kone, one of the top vocalists of the currrent generation of female singers in Mali.

'This is music that makes it feel very good to be alive'
