The Silence before Bach

Drama and documentary-style filmmaking blend with the surreal in a passionate look at the legacy of JS Bach. From Bach teaching his son, to a truck driver playing the composer's music on his harmonica, a Bach impersonator leading tourists through Leipzig, and Felix Mendelssohn's curious discovery of the St Matthew Passion, this visually and aurally arresting film takes a playful look at a classical composer who continues to inspire and influence Western culture. (Die Stille vor Bach, dir. Pere Portabella, Spain 2007, subtitled)
