Yorkshire Bach Choir: Brahms German Requiem

St Michael le Belfrey Church, High Petergate, York
Saturday 21 June 7:30pm

Adults £18 | Concessions £16

(In composer''s piano duet version)
and Liebeslieder-Walzer op.52

Brahms'' German Requiem is one of the great choral masterpieces of all time. Brahms himself made this piano transcription of the orchestral parts of his stupendous Requiem. Unlike the Victoria Requiem, heard in the February concert, this is a sacred but not a liturgical composition. Brahms'' arrangement of the original orchestral material for two players allows a greater intimacy, precision and contrapuntal clarity than that possible in the orchestral version; as such it pairs very happily with the glorious Liebeslieder- Walzer op.52. Both pieces are from the 1860''s and the Liebeslieder is a set of 18 short songs set for solo voices and choir which pays tribute to Johann Strauss.
