Melody Monkey's Songbook
It is suitable for use by Early Years groups, or by families at home. All the material in the book can easily be used by people with no formal musical training.
The Song Book contains 42 entertaining songs and rhymes together with eight stories. All of the songs contain suggestions for actions and movement, or games that can be played while singing. Many songs involve the use of instruments and children are encouraged to use their imaginations to make up extra verses. Written especially for the songbook, the interactive stories explore instrumental and vocal sounds in a number of exciting ways.
All the songs and stories are recorded on two training CDs. This gives Early Years group leaders ideas about how to teach the songs and games. It also provides a way for people who do not read music to learn the songs.
Melody Monkey's Songbook was created by the National Centre for Early Music and developed by the NCEM's Education Consultant Cathryn Dew and Susan Hollingworth of the Voices Foundation. This initiative has been supported by Youth Music and Arts Council England, Yorkshire.
