Illuminating the Music of Petrus Alamire - Saturday 27 May 2017

Beverley Minster Parish Hall,
Minster Yard North, HU17 0DP
Saturday 27 May 2017
10.00-16.00

The workshop:
As a prelude to the concert on Saturday 27 May given by The Tallis Scholars, and to complement the Petrus Alamire exhibition in the Minster, join Patrick Craig for a practical exploration of some of the repertoire featured in the Petrus Alamire collection, including works by Pierre de la Rue and Josquin des Pres (we may even have an opportunity to work from facsimile!). This session is open to all voices (SATB) with reasonable sight-reading skills. Music will be provided on the day and online links for private study will be available in due course on the page below. The day will conclude with an informal performance of repertoire studied during the day to which all are invited, free-of-charge.

Petrus Alamire (born in 1470) was the nom de plume of Peter Imhoff, a musician and music copyist who produced some of the finest examples of music manuscripts of the Middle Ages.

Patrick Craig returns to Beverley by popular demand, following an acclaimed workshop in 2015. He has been a regular member of the Tallis Scholars since 1997 and sings with The Cardinall's Musick and St. Paul's Cathedral Choir where he also conducts his own choir - Aurora Nova - Britain's leading all-female choir. He has a busy career as a conductor, directing concerts with the Temenos chamber choir and services with Chiara women's choir, and as a popular choral director of workshops and summer schools.

Practicalities:
Light refreshments will be provided for morning and afternoon breaks but you should make your own arrangements for lunch, there are several cafés, restaurants and pubs nearby.
