The NCEM will be celebrating the 2007 Chinese New Year festivities (the Year of the Pig), with a series of concerts and workshops. The celebrations will begin on Saturday 27 January with a performance by The London Jing Kun Opera Association. The Association will also present a Chinese Opera Face Painting workshop providing participants with the opportunity to have their faces painted by professional artists and learn about some of the colour symbolism and face patterns used in the Chinese Opera. A Chinese craft workshop for all the family focussing on the themes of Spring and Good Luck will take place on Sunday 28 January. Run by Chinese Community Artist Linda Tomlinson, participants will have the opportunity to make several traditional Chinese gifts and learn about their significance and symbolism. On Saturday 17 February there will be further opportunity to experience Chinese Music with a performance by the Silk String Quartet who will perform on traditional Chinese string instruments.
