EEEMERGING+
AT THE NCEM
Supported by the Creative Europe programme, EEEMERGING+ is an innovative European project dedicated to young Early Music ensembles. The National Centre for Early Music is one of nine European partners collaborating on the scheme: the Ambronay Cultural Encounter Centre (France), who are project leaders; the Athens Conservatoire (Greece); the National Forum of Music, Wrocław (Poland); the Torroella Festival of Montgrí (Spain); the International Händel-Festspiele, Göttingen (Germany); the Fundazione Ghislieri, Pavia (Italy); the Festival Kvarner, Opatija (Croatia); the Riga Early Music Centre (Latvia); and the National Centre for Early Music, York (UK).
- to identify and select talented young ensembles and to develop their international career (with residencies, concerts, training and promotion)
- to foster the artists' drive towards innovation (by employing new technologies, innovative solutions for audience development and new forms of performance)
- to nurture and encourage the expansion of a community of artists, partners, professionals and audiences.
Many of the ensembles in the scheme are already known to NCEM audiences. There are currently two categories - ‘Rising’ ensembles are: ApotropaïK, The Ministers of Pastime, I Zefirelli, The WIG Society, PuraCorda, Cohaere Ensemble, Butter Quartet, La Camerata Chromatica, filoBarocco, Into the Winds and La Palatine. The ‘Experienced’ ensembles are: Concerto di Margherita, Consone Quartet, El Gran Teatro del Mundo, Cantoría, L’Apothéose, La Vaghezza, Cembaless, Prisma, Palisander and Sarbacanes.
There have been lots of opportunities to hear some more of these ensembles this year.
In May we welcomed The Ministers of Pastime for a short residency at the NCEM followed by a public concert in St Mary’s Church, Beverley on Friday 26th.
In July we hosted I Zefirelli for the first time in a variety of venues across York.
We welcomed the Butter Quartet – winners of the EEEmerging prize in 2019: Bedern Hall, Sunday 9 July.

The NCEM is available to hire for anniversaries, birthday parties, wedding receptions, conferences, dinners and musical events.
