The 2015 York Early Music Christmas Festival runs from 4 - 12 December. Guest artists this season include the European Union Baroque Orchestra [Friday 4 Dec] under their director Lars Ulrik Mortensen presenting a sparking programme of Muffat, Biber and Marcello; Yorkshire Bach Choir [Saturday 5 Dec] presenting Haydn's choral masterpiece 'The Creation'; Ulrike Hofbauer [winner of the York International Young Artists Competition in 2003] with her new ensemble L'Arcadia [Sunday 6 Dec] in a fascinating programme comparing Bach, Telemann, Fasch and Graupner - contenders for the same post as Director of Music at St Thomas' in Leipzig when Bach famously got the post!; The Marian Consort [Monday 7 Dec] with a programme of 15th and 16th century music for the Nativity by French composer Jean Mounton; the ever cheerful Joglaresa [Tuesday 8 Dec] with their medlay of traditional wassails and medieval carols and The York Waits [Wednesday 9 Dec] who look to Northern Europe for their Advent programme of 16th and 17th century carols; singer Clare Wilkinson is joined by friends including lutenist Jacob Heringman and reader Stephen Wilkinson [Thursday 10 Dec]; the acclaimed vocal ensemble Ex Cathedra directed by Jeffrey Skidmore return with their Elizabethan Christmas programme [Friday 11 Dec] and we conclude with a richly variegated programme led by the Belgian based B'Rock orchestra with soprano Julia Doyle.
Highlights also include the first in a series of residencies supported through our EEEmerging project - a programme designed to support young professional ensembles with Les Contre-Sujets joining us on Saturday 5 Dec and a workshop for singers and players of renaissance instruments to join in the fun on Sunday 6 Dec led by John Bryan.
