‘To Beverley We Must Go’
The (virtual) Beverley Ballad Walk
Singer Vivien Ellis, together with local history guides, invite you to join them on a virtual musical walk around Beverley, celebrating the 1,300th anniversary of St John of Beverley, who died in May 721. Starting at the Minster, with its shrine of St John, and weaving through the streets of the town to beautiful St Mary’s Church, we will take you through 800 years of history, with songs and stories. Hear a rare chant for St John, recounting his miracles, and a spine-chilling ballad which was a favourite of Mary Wollstonecraft, famous C18th women’s rights activist & Beverley resident. Listen to the songs and stories of poor ploughmen, notorious criminals, brave soldiers, and good wives, and discover how they, and the turbulent events they lived through, helped to shape the town.
Event Date: 06/06/2021 10:30 am
The NCEM is available to hire for anniversaries, birthday parties, wedding receptions, conferences, dinners and musical events.
