Heaven on Earth: Thomas More’s Utopian Dream
Our programme explores English and European 16th-century vocal music that reflects the religious and political turmoil of Thomas More’s life and writings as Henry VIII forged a new identity for England alongside Europe. We feature several pieces by Robert Fayrfax and Josquin des Prez, both who died in 1521, and the first performance of a commission by Christopher Fox, inspired by Thomas More’s vision of Utopia.
Formed in 2020, EX CORDE consists of professional singers from across the UK, with diverse and successful careers, who are alumni from the University of York and the York-based chamber choir The Ebor Singers.
