Venue: Hexagon Music Centre, Coltman Avenue
A workshop for intermediate to advanced players of medieval and renaissance instruments led by Emeritus Professor John Bryan.
In this practical workshop we take our inspiration from the medieval carvings of minstrels in Beverley Minster & St Mary’s and trace the growth of instrumental music across Europe. Starting with the monophonic dances and first instrumental part-music of the Middle Ages, we will explore the music of the fifteenth century basse danse and the formation of consorts in four and more parts around 1500 playing ‘songs without words’. We then experience a variety of instrumental music from the later Renaissance, ending with the sophisticated dance music of Antony Holborne, published in 1599. All wind, string & brass instruments welcome!
Once you have booked we will email a form for you to complete.
