Rachel Newton and Lauren MacColl

Monday 14 February 7.30pm
£18.00 (£16.00 concessions | £6.00 under 35)

Rachel Newton (The Shee, The Furrow Collective, Spell Songs) and Lauren MacColl (Salt House, Rant) are firmly established as two of the country’s most celebrated folk musicians. They have collaborated on each other’s projects for many years, and now they work as a duo for the first time.

Featuring newly composed music and accompanying visuals, the work pays tribute to the 16th and 17th Century Scottish Witch Trials, one of the darkest periods of Scotland’s history. A humanising tribute to those persecuted – of which 80% are thought to have been women – the project also explores historical beliefs in the supernatural and modern-day parallels in our society.

Each piece of music is based on specially commissioned works by celebrated author Mairi Kidd – tales inspired by and in remembrance of real women who were persecuted and tried as witches, and characters from the folkloric tales and mythology enshrined in our oral culture.

Please note there is a £1.50 administration fee per transaction
