Uncovering the past, imagining the future. An illustrated lecture by Dr Jennie England

St Mary’s contains countless fascinating historical features not least the grinning medieval musicians reflecting the church’s enduring relationship with music. Jennie England will show how we can uncover lost stories through three interconnecting histories exploring folklore, family tragedy, and the breath-taking artistry that decorates this magnificent building. In telling these stories it will become clear that their meanings are not fixed, but instead have shifted across the generations leading to new ways of imagining the future.

Dr Jennie England undertook her PhD at the University of York, during which her research focused on Medieval English monasteries. Since 2019, Jennie has been the Heritage Learning Officer at St Mary’s Church.
