Josquin des Prez: the first of the ‘great composers’?
John Bryan, Emeritus Professor at the University of Huddersfield.
Josquin, who died 500 years ago in 1521, was regarded by fellow musicians and his employers alike as a dazzling star among early renaissance composers. How was his reputation fashioned and what was it about his music that brought him such fame?
