York Early Music Festival: Event 3

Free to ticket holders for either Monteverdi String Band event. Please book in advance.
Venue: NCEM, St Margarets Church, Walmgate
“Un non so che di frizzante: the madrigal as a cauldron of creativity”
Oliver Webber traces the madrigal’s poetic origins, explaining its role as a vehicle for musical experimentation, from Monteverdi’s transgressive madrigalian harmonies – used to such poignant effect in his operas – to the brilliant tradition of virtuoso vocal and instrumental ornamentation.
Patrons and Friends of the Festival are invited to join us immediately after event 3 for a welcoming drink in the gardens of the NCEM. Our first encounter for two years!
