Illustrated talk - Jamie Savan

Event 8: York Early Music Festival

Monday 11 July 10.30am
Venue: Bedern Hall

A view of the context of Schütz’s second visit to Venice in 1628-29, exploring the profound changes in musical style that had taken place since his earlier studies there with Gabrieli. Schütz would surely have met Monteverdi, now maestro di cappella at St Mark’s, but this talk will also introduce some of the lesser-known innovators in modern vocal and instrumental music in the Venice of the 1620s.
