STEVEN DEVINE & ROBIN BIGWOOD
York Early Music Festival: Event 4
Tuesday 13 July 1.00pm
£25.00 (£23.00 concessions)
Venue: St Lawrence’s Church, Hull Road
The Bach Circle
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach: Concerto in F major for 2 harpsichords, BR A 12/FK10
Johann Ludwig Krebs: Concerto in A minor for 2 harpsichords, KrebsWV 840
With such a circle of supremely talented offspring and students surrounding J S Bach, the potential for collaborative music making was enormous. Krebs was a favourite student of Bach’s and highly regarded as one of the finest keyboard players of his generation. W F Bach – the eldest (and possibly favourite) son in Bach’s family – was an innovator and experimenter, pushing the boundaries of form and technique. Here two concerti – charming, dramatic and virtuosic – are presented in an all-too rare performance of music for multiple keyboards.
