A Musical Magic Box: The Art of Baroque Variation

Variation employs the art of disguise, presenting simple ideas in many different lights. The NCEM’s youth music ensemble for school-age musicians invites you to join them or a programme showcasing the use of variation in baroque music, revealing its tricks, presenting favourites by Purcell, Lully and Rameau in a new light, and applying these strategies to their own compositions and improvisations, just as baroque musicians would have done. Prepare for some surprises and musical magic tricks of our own along the way!
