Magic, Fairies, Dreams and Celebrations in the gardens of the NCEM (if wet, we’ll move indoors).

On a beautiful Midsummer Day in August, let us Dream about fairies in a faraway forest. Let us be transported to a world full of magic. Let us dance, rejoice and celebrate with music.

Four Athenians run away to the forest only to have Puck the fairy make both of the boys fall in love with the same girl whilst also helping his master play a trick on the fairy queen. Will all this crazy chaos have a happy ending? Join us in the NCEM gardens to find out!

William Shakespeare’s classic play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is being reimagined, in a celebration of York’s glorious summer-time and the musical backdrop of the NCEM. This 45-minute adaptation will be packed full of music and interaction allowing children to engage in the action of the play. So grab a boom-wacker and immerse yourself in this summer celebration of Shakespeare.

The experienced team behind the project have worked on youth theatre projects and in schools around Yorkshire. Both Anna and Alfie are graduates from the University of York with Masters degrees. Alfie’s work at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough has given him experience delivering play-in-a-day workshops for children and engaging with communities. Anna is passionate about using Shakespeare to engage young people with theatre, earlier this year she directed Four Wheel Drive’s EDUCATE project, delivering performance based workshops to GCSE students for their revision.

This production is produced by Four Wheel Drive, a York based theatre company.
