Strand 2: Workshop and concert for young string players with members of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Autumn term 2013

Young string players from York Arts Academy Symphony Orchestra and members of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment gave a concert together at the National Centre for Early Music as part of the 2013 York Early Music Christmas Festival.

Musicians Alison Bury and Helen Kruger (violins), Nicholas Logie (viola), Ruth Alford (cello) and Cecilia Bruggemeyer (double bass) of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, along with York harpsichordist Andrew Passmore, performed alongside the young players in a programme which included Handel's Concerto Grosso in G major, op. 6 no. 1, Corelli's 'Christmas Concerto' and Biber's Battalia

In preparation for the concert during the Autumn term, the young string players had worked with the OAE musicians in two workshops which explored aspects of baroque playing, including learning to play with baroque bows.  Between the workshops they rehearsed and practised their new skills with YAASO director Rachel Meredith during their regular weekly sessions at Canon Lee School.
