Biography

QuintEssential Sackbut and Cornett Ensemble was formed in 1993. Specialising in early music with an original and unusual repertoire, QuintEssential ensure that period brass instruments speak to a contemporary audience in an exciting and innovative voice. Over the past fifteen years, QuintEssential have performed at many of the major British festivals including York, Beverley, Norfolk & Norwich, Warwick & Leamington, Spitalfields and Exeter, as well as in Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Poland, Slovenia, Belgium, Italy and Spain. In 2009 they joined Alamire for a series of concerts to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the accession of King Henry VIII. In 2010 they were involved in many anniversary performances of Monteverdi's Vespers and in 2012 they perform the work with the Dunedin Consort. In 2012 they also celebrate the anniversary of Giovanni Gabrieli with concerts in Dublin, at the Gregynog Festival and for Cambridge Early Music.

QuintEssential have released two CDs, In Venetia (Meridian) a programme of north Italian instrumental music, and Elisa is the fayrest quene (Chandos); they also appear on Ex Cathedra's three volumes of South American Baroque music (Hyperion) and on two recordings on the Obsidian label with the Choir of Sidney Sussex, Cambridge (music by Ludwig Senfl) and the vocal ensemble Alamire (Henry's Music), both directed by David Skinner.
