A Hanseatic Christmas

German civic wind bands were the pride of every town. Known as Stadtpfeiffer, they would enliven every major civic event: baptisms, weddings, funerals, mayoral processions, and of course the major religious festivals of Christmas and Easter. This recital recreates the colour and variety of 17th century German musical life, with a selection of Christmas music, some vocal, some instrumental, tunes familiar, and unfamiliar, played on the beautiful old wind instruments of the time.
